The small, charming, historic village of Aghios Markos is just over 5 minutes drive, there is one small taverna in the village. Five minutes in the other direction you will find the famous Etrusco restaurant which is considered one of Greece’s finest restaurants.
Head south from the villa & you will find yourself in Corfu Town, a fantastically lively example of Venetian architecture, museums, galleries, great shops and even a cricket pitch! The town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it is so proud of its history, a visit here would be well worth it. We have spent a fair amount of time in the town so we are well versed at what to do and where to go… just ask.
From Corfu Town you can catch a ferry or sea taxi to either Parga in mainland Greece or Paxos (both are about an hour in a boat).
Venturing even further south you will discover a hilly part of Corfu, while down on the coast are beaches like Agios Giorgos and Issos. There is a good selection of long, sandy beaches (the beaches in the north are pebbles) & some great tavernas dotted along the coast.
Just a short drive (or, even better, boat ride) to Agni beach where you will find 3 great places to eat. The most famous is Toula’s, a favourite with Greeks and visitors, the prawns are to die for. Just next door is the equally good Agni Taverna. Moor your boat at one of their jetties and relax in the shade while the children splash in the shallow waters of this beautiful bay.
This is a fabulous area – you’ll be spoilt for choice and you can dip in and out as much as you like before retiring to the beauty of the house.
We have seen some of the best houses in Corfu but this one definitely has that extra something special.
Just off the road north from Corfu Town to Kassiopi is a very private enclave of houses, in among the trees is the jewel that is Corfelia.
The exquisite taste of the owners emanates from every corner. Beautiful antiques and stunning paintings mix effortlessly with fresh orchids, hand printed bedcovers and sumptuous linen.
The clean lines of this house make it very easy to live in – easy on the eye inside as well as a delectable pool area that has flavours of a small luxurious boutique hotel.
The delicately fragrant cypress wood floorboards throughout the house, the views, the elegance and style of this place ensure a thoroughly fabulous whole.
The sitting room is so welcoming – you could pretend you lived here for a week or two and you certainly wouldn’t want to change anything! Several shady places to sit in outside are just perfect from where to enjoy the panoramic views of the coast.
The pool area, at the bottom of the garden, is zen-like in its beauty. It enjoys shade from the surrounding trees and has a wonderful pool house with comfy seating. The perfect spot to while away a long afternoon.
As well as endless sunbeds, beautiful vintage deck chairs and a hammock, there is a shower and changing room with a loo just below the pool.
Gloriously comfortable beds (we tried them!) and masses of storage area, this house is right up there with some of the nicest we’ve ever been into.
The lovely cook will make you a delicious fresh pasta dish or a fabulous salad before you venture north to Agni or south to Corfu town. This house really is beautifully positioned to enjoy the whole island.
