Morocco’s intoxicating mix of bustling cultures, exotic cities, fine food and never-ending sunshine offers a fabulous holiday destination for those looking for a holiday with diversity.
Dar Camilla is located in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in the multi-coloured landscape of the timeless Ourika Valley. This is one of the most beautiful and best preserved valleys in Morocco with tiny villages clinging to the steep hillsides above and a plethora of wildlife and flowers.
Take your pick of spices from the Ourika Safraniere or scents at the bio-aromatic gardens of the Ourika. Go trecking in the moutains – there are trails that suit all levels of fitness & ability. Visiting typical Berber houses is a real highlight particularly in the beautiful village of Setti Fatma – famous for it’s 7 waterfalls.
Nearby Marrakech is a city that shouldn’t be missed – a real jewel.
Its rich & colourful Medina is teaming with all sorts of shops, winding streets & charming riads. Sample the wares of stall holders, from almonds to kohl make up, there is something for everyone here. Go home with a stunning kaftan from one of the street markets or venture into the smarter shops for silks and leather.
The city is home to some of the most beautiful monuments in the whole of Morocco – sit and watch the snake charmers in the evening at Jmaa-el-fna, visit the Koutubia mosque, the palaces, gardens and palomeraies – it is an unforgettable place.
We have been to Dar Camilla twice & we are more excited than ever about this wonderful house. The sunlight hitting the terracotta building was beautiful and the style of the place struck us as we walked around the huge building.
Entering this paradise through a large Andalucian courtyard we couldn’t help but notice the pungent orange and lemon trees and a cooling fountain. The house was built in 2004 in traditional style and named after Morocco’s most beautiful river. It is situated in an enclosed domain with full security and entered through fantastic castellated gates crossing over a little canal.
Only 20 minutes from the bustling Medina of Marrakech, Moulouya is an oasis of peace, set in a large garden which is spectacularly planted with a thousand roses, bougainvillea, plumago, olive, pomegranate and banana trees as well as cool, soft lawn for children to run and play on.
The English owners have cleverly designed the house in an exotic and dramatic way with much love and affection, creating a deeply sumptuous and restful pad. With large bedrooms and beautiful en suite bathrooms this is a great place to come and relax.
Please note that mid summer in this part of the country there is a lovely dry heat and the house itself is very cool.
