Corfu, famed for it’s glorious greenery and luscious interior, has become an immensely popular and luxurious destination. Often attracting the A list, this divine island offers stunning beaches, great night life, delectable restaurants and boat hopping between small and quaint tavernas meaning that even the most restless of pleasure seeker will be happy!
The north east coast is full of outstanding bays and white pebbled coves, higher up, away from the coast the interior is home to birds of prey, rare flora and rural simplicity. Water sports a-plenty can be found on many of the local beaches.
Nearby St Stephano is a simple and pretty harbour with seafront tavernas and a delightful beach. The tavernas are lively, day and night and there is also a cocktail bar if the mood takes you.
For the teenagers the night life in Kassiopi is a short drive up the coast.
This is a fine place to spend a family holiday or with a close group of friends, potter into town for delicious local delicacies, take a small boat from to a tiny taverna for a long, lazy lunch of fresh fish and come home to a delicious dinner under the stars.
One of the greatest pleasures of this gorgeous, wooded stretch of coast is that the sea-fronted properties are so accessible by boat. You can spend your mornings stopping off to swim at one or other pebbly cove, admiring the views of mainland Albania before seeking out a new taverna for lunch. All the tavernas have their own wooden jetties and their owners will wave you in, catch your rope and tie up your boat before handing you their menu.
Take the skippered boat out for a day, a wonderful itinerary can be planned ahead of time; visit the stunning nearby islands of Paxos and Antipaxos where you can have lunch before coming back to Corfu for a sundowner at one of the wonderful seaside tavernas.
We knew the view was going to be fabulous as the road to this house was taking us up into the hills above the beach. Off the coastal road to the north of Kassiopi – we found ourselves entering an oasis of calm through some gates – and at the end of this next we discovered the oasis that is Kilifi.
The house, from the outside, looks like most villas, but on entering you realise you’ve arrived at somewhere very special and very different.
The contemporary finishes at Kilifi is what makes it stand out. Exposed concrete, beautiful and unusual, a glorious modern kitchen, wall to ceiling glass doors out onto a terrace – and a black swimming pool! The outside terrace has been sympathetically built in an ancient olive grove and the owners have been very careful not to intrude too much on the landscape (one old tree still exists with the terrace literally built around it!). They have made a glorious garden choosing the local plants with care and ensured that they will thrive in this environment.
The furnishings are also uber cool – beautiful bold prints mix effortlessly with carefully selected furniture and artwork.
With five bedrooms – all with their own en suite bathroom – This house works perfectly for large or small groups who enjoy getting away from it all.
There are two exquisite bedrooms in the garden in private individual annexes which are both romantic and peaceful and can be occupied when accommodating larger parties, both annex buildings are with bathrooms, dressing areas and private terraces allowing lots of seclusion and privacy.
The views down to Kalamaki beach (the only sandy beach in the north of the island) really are sublime – that’s if you can take your eyes off the pool reflections – a black pool has the most amazing reflective effect… and we were mesmerised.
We can honestly say you will have the most glorious time at this beautifully appointed villa. In just the right spot for enjoying everything this part of Corfu has to offer.
