Our View

La foret is a delightful and beautiful 17th century Chartreuse located in the heart of Gascony. The house benefits from very large ceiling heights in the main reception rooms and bedrooms and encompasses timber and terracotta floors, numerous beams and a wonderful wooden veranda for outdoor dining. The house exudes comfort – you can really feel the history of the place.

This house would be perfect for families, the ground floor bedrooms are large with high ceilings, beautiful painted French furniture and a mixture of linen and velvet furnishings. The first floor bedrooms are great for children who all want to stay in the same room – the large single beds will sleep 2 small children per bed if they feel like cuddling up!

The downstairs living area is split into two rooms: the Grand Salon and the Petit Salon – both perfect for relaxing with a good book in the evenings and a roaring fire for the cooler months. The Petit Salon has a TV for watching DVDs and the space is big enough that you can keep away from quieter folk at the other end of the room. Makes it an ideal room for a large group.

There are plenty of areas for eating al fresco, two terraces and a beautiful wisteria-covered veranda looking out over the gardens, stunning during the day but equally beautiful at night – enjoy a twinkly candle-lit supper under the stars. Put your feet up and be fully catered for if you really want to relax – there’s a fabulous cook who can come for a single night or more (must be booked well in advance).

The ping pong table in the huge converted barn makes the perfect place for a game in the shade. The owner has also made sure there is a wide selection of outdoor games equipment available.

One of the greatest joys is being able to walk into Estang for fresh bread and pastries. We love the sound of this house and we think you will too!
