Local Information

A 15 minute walk from Almira, Anchor Watch will take you to the bustling centre of Salcombe with its pretty ice-cream coloured shops and cafes, hanging baskets and bunting. Wander down to jaunty Fore Street to buy a delicious crab sandwich, local artisanal foods, gifts, freshly caught fish, a bucket and spade, or crabbing line.
Beach days can be spent at any of the gorgeous coves all along the estuary. For a dip before breakfast, try North Sands which is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the house. Or, a short trip on the East Portlemouth ferry will take you to Mill Bay and Sunny Cove- both are perfect for sandcastles or a game of beach cricket. Hire a paddleboard or a kayak and explore the beautiful marine life along the shoreline.
For those who like to be out on the open sea, self-drive boats can be hired from Whitestrand to explore secret coves or to catch some mackerel for supper.
There are plenty of lovely places to eat out, we like Wild Artichoke and The Old Bakery in Kingsbridge, and the restaurant at Hope Cove House hotel is 20 minutes drive away.

Our View

During the summer, the sun comes up almost directly opposite the apartment and the entire living area is filled with light. With all the sliding doors open it feels as though you’re on board a ship. Breakfast is in full sunshine at the table on the deck watching the world go by. Yachts potter up and down the estuary, crabbing boats unload their catch and paddleboarders make their way through the crystal water. When we stayed we were treated to the most spectacular full moon rising above the headland opposite, casting its silver reflection in the water below.
During the winter the house is really warm and cosy. Enjoy deep baths and a movie after a blustery walk. It’s the best place to watch a storm blowing in from the sea.
Inside, the living space is very generous. Huge L-shaped sofas are wonderful for curling up with a book and really come into their own in the evening. It’s a wonderful place for gathering with friends. The kitchen is a food-enthusiasts dream – fully-equipped for rustling up something delicious from the catch of the day. Upstairs the beds are big and comfy. In the sea-facing rooms you won’t be able to take your eyes off the view.
