Visitors to Paxos are always captivated by its picturesque simplicity and easy pace of life. A morning stroll to the baker for fresh, warm bread, then off in the boat, or on foot, for a relaxing day at the beach, back in the evening for dinner at one of the harbourside tavernas, and a romantic walk home beneath a sky of brilliant stars.
The crystal clear water of the Ionian islands has to be witnessed first hand, it is said that the sea is so blue that it reflects on the undersides of the seagulls as they fly across the water!
It is possible to charter a yacht or motor boat to lunch on the white sands of the nearby island of Anti Paxos (2km). Exploring the hidden beauty in every bay by boat is a real treat, drop the anchor and swim through the mysterious caves that dot the coastline.
There is scuba diving, great snorkelling and some gentl water sports in the north of the island.
The local restaurants are of a high standard serving both traditional Greek food and the most delicious Italian cuisine.
Eating out on Paxos is a pleasure. White pebble bays on the east coast and majestic white cliffs and deep caves on the west give families a range of things to explore. For the “intrepid” there are walks through flower filled olive groves, gentle fishing, snorkelling and diving.
Looking out to sea in the South of the island near Mongonissi Bay, this house is as cool and calm as an ocean breeze. Inside, the interiors are a wonderful Greek mixture of chalky blue furniture and gauzy white linens. The sweet, retro style kitchen is fully kitted out with Smeg fridge and coffee machine and beautifully decorated with ticking stripes and pots of herbs. The open plan sitting room has large windows overlooking the Ionian sea with direct access to the garden and pool area.
Downstairs the three bedrooms are bright and airy, with the same charming Greek character as the rest of the house. The master bedroom and twin bedroom have large French doors leading outside into the garden. The single bedroom has a small skylight window.
Only a few minutes drive from Gaios ( or a 30min walk if you fancy) it’s the perfect place to get a bit of buzzy nightlife.
Note we don’t think it’s the perfect place to take toddlers as there are lots of drops both inside and out.
