Menorca is the most relaxed of the Balearic islands. It is a great destination for a family holiday with some of Europe’s best beaches. The nearest village to the house is San Climent which is only a 5 minute drive.
It is home to 2 of the island’s institutions: Es Casino Bar Restaurant and Es Moli Foc. Tuesday evenings there is jazz at the Es Casino Bar – visiting musicians sit in with others engaging in impromptu sessions which have a great following on the island. There are local shops including a bakery, a micro brewery (producing English style beers)
Menorca is famous for its great sailing, windsurfing & paddle boarding. The best watersports are in Fornells in the North East of the island, here there is an almost landlocked lagoon which offers safe watersports with great windsurfing and sailing schools and excellent waterskiing.
There are kayaks and paddle boards in the house which can be enjoyed at the local beaches.
Located in huge caves (some 25 m above the sea) at the entrance to Cala en Porter bay is Cova d’en Zoroi which is the most dramatic night spot on the island. A fabulous cafe-bar with wooden tables & seagrass umbrellas from which to enjoy the sea views. Go after 11pm and enjoy the tunes at the funky nightclub playing music til dawn. The club is hewn out of the rock so dance with the beautiful people in the most dramatic of settings on the island.
There are many prehistoric sites on Menorca as well as historical sites of interest where there are ancient monuments and signs of settlements.
The main town of Mahon has a wonderful traditional charm about it, there is a natural harbour full of bobbing boats & a yacht club as well as a great cafe life. Here there are wonderful fruit & fish markets. The streets are Georgian lending an air of grandeur to the place, but don’t be fooled! This is as Spanish & relaxed as it comes. The locals are incredibly welcoming & there is a great choice of bars & restaurants to suit everyone. There is a marina & lots of bars and restaurants in the town. The natural harbour is the second biggest in the world and therefore attracts some of the most famous yachts which makes an evening paseo something of a spectacle. The harbour has a good choice of restaurants and bars. The town has a rich history and some fabulous architecture. Mayonnaise is said to have been invented in Mahon (Mahonnaise) and a delicious cheese is named after the city.
All summer long there are traditional fiestas on the local Saint’s days. Enjoy parades of stallions with horsemen dressed up in traditional Menorcan outfits.
This is one beauty of a place! We have travelled far and wide to find properties that tick every box and this one does just that.
We saw the house on a beautiful June day, the sun was high in the sky and views across the fields to the sea were dazzling.
This is world class in terms of service and quality. Nothing has been left to chance. A house this size with 11 en suite bedrooms needs a great team to run it effectively – and Cugo Gran have found just the team to do it.
You really don’t have to lift a finger – there is a chauffeur-driven car at your beck and call (day or night), discreet housemaids, laundry service, food and drink on tap as well as options to have dry cleaning, additional catering and a well-informed concierge who will be able to book you literally anything, from sailing to hiring a sports car.
The house itself was finished in June 2015 and has the most immaculate finish. The piano nobile sitting room has wooden floors and white chairs and sofas, the bedrooms are restful in shades of grey and white, each bedroom has a flat screen television as well as underfloor heating for winter months and full air con for the summer. Wifi is important if you have to work (or game!) on holiday and each bedroom has its own.
Bathrooms are impressive as you would expect, state of the art showers and beautifully finished floors and walls create a sense of cool, clean calm.
The huge swimming pool looks out at the valley beyond, in fact the entire outside space is so welcoming you may spend little time inside! There is an Argentinian BBQ and the high quality chef can cook up a storm on any night of the week if that’s what you’d like.
There is an entire field by the house set aside for events so if it’s a wedding you’re after we can sort that for you too.
The people who run this show really know how to treat their guests, nothing is too much trouble.
