The house is well secluded behind iron gates, high laurel hedges, cypress trees and horse chestnuts and yet is just 2.5km from the picturesque historic town of Sansepolcro, famous for its Piero della Francesca masterpieces (paintings and fresco’s) and boasting a great selection of restaurants, bars and shops. The town can be reached easily via an asphalted road (not hilly). It’s a lovely walk!

Nearby Sansepolcro is a lovely town on the plains of the upper Tiber valley and is well known for historical art. The centre of town is 3.5 kms away from the villa and you can walk there in 40 minutes along the road. It is most famous for being the birthplace of Piero della Francesca, and one of his most important works the resurrection of Christ, can be found in the local museum. The town has plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants.
Nearby Citta Di Castello is a large and bustling town with a twice weekly market and plenty of shops and restaurants. Surrounded by its original 16thC walls the town has some magnificent architecture to explore, including the cathedral of Saint Florido and Amanzio. The Pinacoteca Communale houses work by Signorelli, Raffaellino del Colle, Lorenzo Ghiberti and Pomarancio. Set above the river Tiber, the Tiber trail is a shaded riverside walk that lasts for 20km with views of the old town, bell towers and city walls and passes through several local villages. You can find guided canoeing at the start of the trail.
One of the best local towns is Arezzo, only 30 minutes by car. It has an amazing antique market in the centre of town every first weekend of the month. The town also has some lovely shops and restaurants.
Arezzo, Assisi, Cortona, Gubbio, and Perugia are all within easy distance for a day trip. Florence, Siena, Orvieto, Todi and Urbino are slightly further.
Tennis is in Citta di Castello. Antognolla golf course is a 40 mins drive. This is an ideal area for hiking and cycling.
The owners of this 19th century ‘Casa Padronale’ (translates as Manor House) just finished a very careful restoration of the property, set in well-kept terraced gardens and surrounded by gentle wooded hills.
Outside, the smart pool is lined by charmingly planted terracotta pots, and during the day dappled shade on the sunbeds creates a tranquil spot to lie.
Just up the road from the house is the ‘Gorgo del Ciliegio’ a secret wild river swimming spot. Due to the river in the valley below and the position of the house set into the hill the house benefits from a lovely summer breeze and is often a couple of degrees cooler than in town.
Inside, the rooms are simplistic and stylish, everything is immaculate. Old stone floors, sissal rugs and exposed woodwork keep the original feel of the house and contrast beautifully with the modern bathrooms and kitchen.
This is a wonderful house for lazy summer days but would also be great fun as an out of season treat.
