The nearest lively town, Todi, is a mere 10 minute drive. Todi has wonderful restaurants, pizzerias and gelaterias, Italian local shops and there is more than enough choice for your daily needs. The large piazza in the centre of the town is perfect for sun downers.
Nearby the vineyards at Torgiano there is a well-known wine museum where you can learn about the history of Italian wine-making, who do tours. On the same ticket you can also visit the local olive oil museum.
In Deruta you will find the famous, traditional ceramics known as Maiolica (also found in other local towns) – true devotees of this china seek out Deruta where 250 factories still produce this colourful ceramic. From huge outdoor pots to tiny hand painted espresso cups – your suitcases will be bulging.
It is a great area for those who love their food and wine – with the celebrated Montefalco and Montepulciano not far away, sample tastings and tours galore before delicious lunches in any of these Umbrian hilltop towns – just wonderful!
Umbria is also known for its traditional linens and cashmere – these can be bought in nearby Todi.
Visit one of the many markets in the area and come home with a proper, authentic pizza cutter – or a great big hunk of parmesan cheese to last you through the Autumn.
An exceptionally comfortable house with absolutely everything you could need for a family holiday- tennis court, spa, boules, fabulous outdoor kitchen… and the nearest town with delicious restaurants is only a quick nip in the car. Inside, the interiors are grown-up and sumptuous. This house would be equally perfect with roaring log fires in autumn as it would on a hazy summers’ day. The 3 separate buildings are great for anyone looking to stay in a large group. Grandparents can have a bit of peace and quiet or teenagers can have their own independence too.
