The locals who built the village (long before the days of town planning) just got it so right. They were limited to the local materials they could find so all the houses are built in the same coloured stone as the mountain range which serves as the dramatic back drop.
Heading down the dusty track through the olive groves you find yourselves in the ‘cala’ of Deia, a glorious cove where the few remaining local fishermen still go out at dawn to cast their nets. The north west coast of Mallorca is so very different to the rest of the island. Although the area is not without its tourists it is a more relaxed scene.
Eating out is quite an amazing experience as the local town of Deia has several five star restaurants including the renowed Olivo which is within the La Residencia Hotel.
Home to many writers and artists over the years, Deia is still a hunting ground for collectors with wonderful exhibitions lasting year round.
The beaches in Mallorca are white sand, the east coast is heaving with beautiful coves and sumptuous white villages dotted in amongst the green groves.
The area around Soller is famous for its orange and lemon groves, in the spring the trees are loaded with heavy fruit, ripening through the warm long days. The olive oil in Mallorca is delicious, the island is teeming with the fruit and the oil is lovingly prepared and bottled at source.
The capital of Mallorca is Palma which is a wonderful place to visit during your stay, it has great shopping, livley bars and good restaurants as well as a Gothic cathedral. The maze of narrow streets in the Arab quarter are wonderfully atmospheric at night and the royal palace is not to be missed.
The rural villages of the north west are ancient and beautiful, the local houses are all made out of the same coloured stone as the mountains so they literally disappear like a multitude of chameleons dotting the area. Deia is a beautiful place, ancient and cultural and contemporary all at once. It boasts the best restaurants on the island, indeed other tourists visit from all over the island ensuring it is always on their list of places to visit.
Casa Sofia is a real gem of a house. Set in a private residential area a stone’s throw away from the town of Deia itself, there are stunning views of the surrounding Deia Lluch Alcari coastline.
Built using the traditional Mallorcan stone, this villa pays perfect homage to the old whilst whole-heartedly welcoming the new. Inside, find white-washed walls to further accent the shades of blue in the soft furnishings and stunning tiles throughout the house.
With three main double bedrooms furnished to an equally high standard (think sumptuous linens, throws and quirky light fittings) its hard to tell which room is intended as the master, making this the perfect house for a couple of families to come together and enjoy some quality time as a group.
Outside, you’re spoilt for choice in terms of seating, with plentiful comfortable areas to enjoy a sun-downer overlooking the sea below, or to while away your afternoons in the sun with a good read.
Spend your mornings swimming at Deia Cove, enjoy long lunches in the shade of the loggia terrace, followed by a quick siesta before dinner in nearby Deia.
Casa Sofia provides the perfect haven from which to explore and enjoy Deia and Mallorca.
