Corfu, famed for its glorious greenery and luscious interior, has become an immensely popular and luxurious destination. Often attracting the A list, this divine island offers stunning beaches, great night life, delectable restaurants and boat hopping between small and quaint tavernas meaning that even the most restless of pleasure seeker will be happy!
With its warren of narrow streets, graceful Venetian facades and wonderful main square, Corfu Town is more Italian than Greek to look at. Many of the narrow alleyways are pedestrianised and venerable buildings have been sensitively restored. The Old Town is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
One of the most notable buildings is the Liston, a French-built arcade lined with cafés and restaurants – perfect for coffee and people watching.
A magnificent house in an exciting new area for us. Cecilia Estate is a stone house built by artists on a 7-acre olive grove. The property is an eco-friendly build with self-sufficient systems and features magical views towards the island of Kyriadiki, home to a small ancient church. To coincide with the owner’s sustainable ethos the stone to build the house has come from all over Greece, with some from Athens, and some from Corfu’s derelict buildings.
The focal point of the house is the iconic stone arches, a clever design to create a light-filled living space, and sheltered outdoor space. Each of the bedrooms have cypress wooden floors and are filled with light. Behind the house is a Moroccan style garden which offers shade on summer days. Surrounded by citrus trees, palms, tropical flowers and herbs, along with hammocks, where you can rest during the afternoons, with fresh wild herbal teas served all day.
