There is so much to do in the local area around the house which has amazing walking – a real heaven for hikers – the cycling is outstanding and there is local horse riding which can be booked.
The local village of Fanjeaux (2km from the house) is a quiet medieval settlement which rises up from the main road. There is a great cafe run by an artist who serves home made lemonade, great coffee and artwork. There is also a lovely simple local restaurant and some small shops.
The ancient fortified bastide town of Revel has an amazing food market on Saturday mornings which is housed in a majestic timbered medieval market hall dating from the C14th. Choose from farm-made mountain cheese, eggs, milk, dried hams, saucisson, abundant fresh fruit and vegetables as well as delicious meats, puddings and flowers.
Every day there is a local town or village with a fabulous food market. It becomes part of the daily joy to find where the market is and to compare it with yesterday’s delight.
There is a picturesque lake at St Ferreol Durfort which is a lovely place for a picnic – or just a wander.
The beautiful fortified city of Carcassonne is a 25km drive and is definitely worth a visit. The annual Carcassonne summer festival has established itself as one of the premier events in southern France. In the summer months music festivals are prolific and the Ceret Museum of Modern Art exhibits the works of Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, Miro and many others.
There are some excellent local wines, with a wide choice of restaurants in the local area, enough of a choice that everyone will be happy.
Carcassonne has an International-standard golf course complete with great views of the old city.
What a beautiful home with stunning interiors, fabulous big grounds and spectacular swimming pool (complete with tiles which shimmer in the sun due to the tiny flecks of gold in them!). This is quite an estate to behold with tennis court, huge rolling lawns, double height ceilings as well as more toys for adults and children alike than we have come across in any other villa.
If you have had enough reading the latest bestseller by the divine pool there is so much more on offer: from volleyball and archery to tennis, golf and boules. Something for everyone!
The children will be in heaven with all the various things to do, there’s an x box for those desperate to get out of the sun (!), a 4 bedded room just for small people, enormous kitchen, endless places to sit in the sun or shade as well as the delights of the local area.
Although there is an amazing chef on offer (and we recommend you employ him) if you are keen on cooking then this is the kitchen for you – with a professional La Cornue oven, an ice cream machine and all mod cons, only delicious food will come out of this huge kitchen.
The rooms have high ceilings, many showing lovely wooden beams. Bedrooms abound with beautiful covers on the beds, antique bedstands, prettily painted French furniture and lovely muted colours. The rooms are chic and stylish with polished clay tile floors, cool underfoot. Parts of the house date back over 1,000 years but the owners have made the most perfect job in bringing it up to modern standards whilst retaining its original features.
All in all this beautiful estate is there for the taking, the sense of space and generosity abound. It is an inviting house where comfort and luxury sit hand in hand. A truly stunning villa and one we are thrilled to have in our portfolio.
