Corfu, famed for it’s glorious greenery and luscious interior, has become an immensely popular and luxurious destination. Often attracting the A list, this divine island offers stunning beaches, great night life, delectable restaurants and boat hopping between small and quaint tavernas meaning that even the most restless of pleasure seeker will be happy!
The north east coast is full of outstanding bays and white pebbled coves, higher up, away from the coast the interior is home to birds of prey, rare flora and rural simplicity. Water sports a-plenty can be found on many of the local beaches.
Nearby St Stephano is a simple and pretty harbour with seafront tavernas and a delightful beach. The tavernas are lively, day and night and there is also a cocktail bar if the mood takes you.
For the teenagers the night life in Kassiopi is a short drive up the coast.
This is a fine place to spend a family holiday or with a close group of friends, potter into town for delicious local delicacies, take a small boat to a tiny taverna for a long, lazy lunch of fresh fish and come home to a delicious dinner under the stars.
One of the greatest pleasures of this gorgeous, wooded stretch of coast is that the sea-fronted properties are so accessible by boat. You can spend your mornings stopping off to swim at one or other pebbly cove, admiring the views of mainland Albania before seeking out a new taverna for lunch. All the tavernas have their own wooden jetties and their owners will wave you in, catch your rope and tie up your boat before handing you their menu.
Take the skippered boat out for a day, a wonderful itinerary can be planned ahead of time; visit the stunning nearby islands of Paxos and Antipaxos where you can have lunch before coming back to Corfu for a sundowner at one of the wonderful seaside tavernas.
This is a glorious, light, spacious and relaxed house with all the comfort we have come to expect from the beautiful houses in the north east of the island. In a fabulous position above Avlaki beach, this is the most beautiful family house – designed by a Norman Foster- trained architect and very comfortable. Just a short walk down to the beach, this is a glorious villa which ticks all the boxes.
From the moment we arrived we knew this was a special place, the beautiful double-heighted sitting room lead us out onto the lovely shady terrace which has views across Kaparelli island and over to Albania. Just lovely! We could have sat on that terrace all evening looking at the stunning view.
Both the interior and exterior colours of the villa are from a palette of chalky tones allowing the modern and vintage furnishings and artwork to provide vibrancy. The large bedrooms are punctuated with bright colours and the luxurious bathrooms are oozing with fluffy towels and delicious lotions and potions.
Their attention to detail is noticeable – beautiful walk-in showers in white bathrooms which are all en suite to large bedrooms with large windows looking down to the sea. The olive grove in front of the house creates a wonderful foreground – leaves shimmering in silver away into the distance.
This house is well thought out for children – a stair gate at the top of the stairs in the sitting room ensures safety is at the fore front. The huge pool area is simply stunning, with the swimming pool shaped around an ancient olive tree, a great space for a big group.
With the lovely Lucy, the housekeeper, Ella House is a destination worthy of kings and princes. Or just us! We would love to bring our families to this heavenly spot in the olive groves.
