Menorca is the most relaxed of the Balearic islands. It is a great destination for a family holiday with some of Europe’s best beaches.
The nearest village to the house is San Climent which is only a 5 minute drive. It is home to 2 of the island’s institutions: Es Casino Bar Restaurant and Es Moli Foc. There are local shops including a bakery, a micro brewery (producing English style beers)
Menorca is famous for its great sailing, windsurfing & paddle boarding. The best watersports are in Fornells in the North East of the island, here there is an almost landlocked lagoon which offers safe watersports with great windsurfing and sailing schools and excellent waterskiing.
Located in huge caves (some 25 m above the sea) at the entrance to Cala en Porter bay is Cova d’en Zoroi which is the most dramatic night spot on the island. A fabulous cafe-bar with wooden tables & seagrass umbrellas from which to enjoy the sea views. Go after 11pm and enjoy the tunes at the funky nightclub playing music til dawn. The club is hewn out of the rock so dance with the beautiful people in the most dramatic of settings on the island.
There are many prehistoric sites on Menorca as well as historical sites of interest where there are ancient monuments and signs of settlements.
The main town of Mahon has a wonderful traditional charm about it, there is a natural harbour full of bobbing boats & a yacht club as well as a great cafe life. Here there are wonderful fruit & fish markets. The streets are Georgian lending an air of grandeur to the place, but don’t be fooled! This is as Spanish & relaxed as it comes. The locals are incredibly welcoming & there is a great choice of bars & restaurants to suit everyone. The natural harbour is the second biggest in the world and therefore attracts some of the most famous yachts which makes an evening paseo something of a spectacle. The harbour has a good choice of restaurants and bars. The town has a rich history and some fabulous architecture. Mayonnaise is said to have been invented in Mahon (Mahonnaise) and a delicious cheese is named after the city.
All summer long there are traditional fiestas on the local Saint’s days. Enjoy parades of stallions with horsemen dressed up in traditional Menorcan outfits.
It is quite rare to find a house which has been as sympathetically updated as this one. This rural idyll has been transformed from a farmhouse into something spectacular, a top of the range holiday house where luxury comes as standard.
The owner is a professional chef and the emphasis is on generosity, comfort and food. The state of the art kitchen is excellenta, there are 2 professional ovens, 2 dishwashers, copper pans, a juicer and the best equipment shipped in from all over the world. and everything you could ever wish for in a kitchen. Entertainment is definitely on the cards here.
There are 4 different places to eat, a great local fish market and a fabulous deli nearby. For those who love cooking we can assure you this is a kitchen you will LOVE to cook in!
The bathrooms have been hand built, wooden-topped surfaces are finished to the highest spec. Enjoy the lotions & potions left generously by the owner, the bath robes, fluffy towels, Molten Brown smells and the huge beds mean you will not want for anything.
Children will have a fabulous time – there is a flat screen television in the outside sitting room, a fun bunk room for hunkering down with friends, ping pong, cricket bowling machine, badminton and a boules pitch. The yurt in the garden also has wifi and a cinema screen and is perfect for chilling out during the day.
The house has an understated cool vibe with rustic hand-crafted fencing, beautiful walls, a hanging seat, crisp white sheets, pillows soft as icing sugar and wonderful power showers… even the loos have been hand crafted to look beautiful!
If you are bored in the house (don’t make us laugh!) there is an amazing adventure awaiting as Menorca is THE place for sailing (the GB sailors train here) – really good for all standards, even beginners like us!
