There are various ways of getting to Ithaca:
1. Fly to the island of Kefalonia.
From the airport a taxi will take you to the port of Sami (30 minutes drive). There are public ferries to Pisaeto in Ithaca twice a day or a sea taxi which will take you to Frikes in Ithaca in 30 minutes.

2. Fly to Preveza on mainland Greece.

From the airport a taxi will take you to Astakos (1 hr drive). There is a public ferry to Vathy which goes once a day.

We can help with all transfers from airport to Ithaca.

A hire car is recommended.

Local Information

Ithaca is the second smallest and the most under-developed of all the Ionian islands. There is magic at every turn – one of Greece’s most beautiful islands without a doubt. It is a popular island with the local yachting fraternity and the beautiful flotillas can be seen out on the open seas. Renting a boat is a must while you are on the island.

The house is near the beach of Filiatro which has a young vibe, rent a beach bed, flop on a huge beach bag and listen to the jazz playing at the little Catina where you can enjoy an ice cold beer or a coffee. Filiatro is a very pretty beach facing east, it is a fairly small bay and is a much-loved beach by people who know the island. Go early as it can get busy later in the day.
It is close to Vathy which is a lively port with lots of shops and supermarkets, great for fruit and has some excellent gift shops. There are one or two very good clothes shops too and lots of jewellery to choose from!

There is a stunning beach nearby, Gidaki, which is long and narrow – visit by boat for the best experience and enjoy the Robinson Crusoe Cantina there which is only open in July and August. Turquoise seas lap on a difficult to get to beach, this is Ithaca at its very best!

The villages have brightly coloured doors and rough walls, lost under layers of white wash.

Enjoy one of the countless walks on the island, venture coast to coast and try any one of the tavernas en route. There are some sites and museums dedicated to Homer whose Odysseus is said to have left his Penelope on Ithaca during his epic journey.

Visit one of the surrounding islands – the deserted island of Atokos is opposite Kioni bay and is a wonderful place for snorkelling. It has Robinson Crusoe beaches and there are no residents so enjoy the turquoise waters in the peace and quiet!

Our View

This is a gem of a house above the beautiful beach of Sarakiniko which can be seen from the villa. The house has been beautifully finished; polished concrete walls, wooden floors and groovy lights abound.
The owners’ love of modern furniture and paintings shine through, there are contemporary features all over the house, there little bits of modern sculpture and statement chairs dotted about the place.

The bathrooms have a designer’s eye about them, they have been finished to a very high specification. Beautiful bathroom floors have been created by the careful selection of blue and grey tiles, rain shower heads promise a good, hearty shower after a day on the boat. And the Korres products in the bathroom finish off the perfect package!

But the pool is the piece de resistance, the views down to the olive groves and the sea below is breathtaking – there is a lovely round table with cool circular benches surrounding it, perfect for lunch in the shade. The outside terrace floor has been made using wonderful tiles which continue inside the house – this gives the sensation of the outside being in and the inside out. Just perfect and what you want in a summer home.

The pool has a wooden terraced-area in one corner which is surrounded by water so you can lie on your sun bed almost in the water!

Enjoy the local Cantina at Filiatro where there is good simple food, cold drinks, sunbeds you can hire, chilled jazz music and huge bean bags for flopping in the shade of an olive tree. You will be dreaming of this house all winter!
