Local Information

The island of Hydra can be found in the Aegean Sea between the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf. The island is known to be one of the most romantic destinations in Greece.

Hydra was built in the shape of an amphitheatre on a slope overlooking the Argosaronic gulf. The small town is mostly traditional stone, narrow cobblestoned streets and has 500 donkeys!

This lovely old villa was built in the late 1700’s with hand worked stone from the hillside of Kamini. In a position known for its sun and classic panoramas, the villa really is in the most idyllic spot.

This island is all about the sea as once you are here there are no buses, scooters or cars. You can take out little boats to explore the surrounding area and beaches. Or hire a pony to get about!

Many people visit the island by boat and every summer groups of sailing boats moor at the harbour, where they are joined by dozens of beautiful motorboats and yachts.

Take a day trip out to the island of Spetses – the next and most remote member of the Argo-Saronic group. Spetses has some wonderful beaches.

The island was a great attraction for much of the Greek aristocracy and the legacy of large mansions can be seen dotted all over the island.

There is alot of good horse riding on the island, a little classier than the mules at the quayside but no less enjoyable!

There is some wonderful walking all over the island and you can buy a good walking map on arrival. Visit churches and hamlets, eat in any one of the many wonderful tavernas before heading to the beach for an evening swim. This is a wonderfully romantic island and one which feels like Greece 50 years ago.

Our View

This is a calm oasis of a house above the sea in the glorious island of Hydra. The thought of spending a week or two (or more!) with no car fills us with joy. Hydra island doesn’t allow cars so enjoy going about on donkeys or on foot.
With lovely stone terracing, amazing views down across the sea and a fabulous pool, you won’t be disappointed in this house. White ceilings and walls create large spaces, the plain and simple interiors don’t skimp on luxury however, white wood abounds and views can be enjoyed through any number of large windows.

Internally the house is great, white walls are punctuated by simple furnishings, wooden tables and painted furniture. Bedding is clean and white with polished concrete floors. There are big cupboards for storage and lovely marble en suite bathrooms for a cool, clean experience!

The sunsets from this house will get you through the winter. Enjoy the pinks and pastel views as you gaze across the sea with something cold in your hand. And when you come home you will dream of the warm days enjoyed by the pool before a delicious lunch of kalamari or saganaki before walking down into Hydra town for a little gentle action by night. We know that, for those of you who enjoy a beautiful house not far from the action, this will be the perfect choice.
