It was a most wonderful stay. Truly exceptional. We loved Zanetos and Erifili and Polyhymnia - nothing was too much trouble. Zanetos for the boat journeys and waterskiing and Erifii helping with the laundry and shopping and Polyhymnia teaching me a bit of Greek and making the most delicious food!

Location

The house is in the north east of the island, across from Lefkada and Meganissi
Kioni is a 10 minute walk or 2 minutes by boat (by car around 7 minutes due to winding road)
Vathy is 45 minutes by car or 25 minutes by boat

Transport

Fly to either Kefalonia or Preveza airport.

The taxi from both airports is 45 minutes by car and the sea taxi is also 45 minutes by small boat

We can organise all transfers from the airport to the house (payable locally)

On arrival the sea taxi will drop you at the villa’s pontoon. Luggage will be transferred by land taxi from Kioni.

A 4×4 hire car can be organized from Kioni but not totally necessary as the RIB is kept below the house and there is a good taxi service on the island that can drive guests to the beach below to walk back up to house.

Local Information

Ithaca is the second smallest and one of the most under-developed of all the Ionian islands. There is magic at every turn – one of Greece’s most beautiful islands without a doubt. It is a popular island with the local yachting fraternity and the beautiful flotillas can be seen out on the open seas.

The villages have brightly coloured doors and rough walls, lost under countless layers of white wash.

Kioni is one of the nicest villages on the island with three beaches. It has 5 tavernas and 4 bars along the waters edge. There are some lovely little shops for present buying, lots of different jewellery shops, a great grocery store for provisions (and some lovely fresh produce) as well as a good bakery.

During the cooler months it is lovely to  enjoy one of the countless walks on the island, venture coast to coast and try any one of the lovely tavernas on the island. There are some sites and museums dedicated to Homer who’s Odysseus is said to have left his Penelope on Ithaca during his epic journey.

There is a tiny weeeeny ’canteen’ on the beach directly below the house (a steep walk down) where you can get delicious sardines, calamari and Greek salad. An ice cold Mythos beer is a must. This little taverna is also open one night a week for slow cooked pork.

Frikes is the next nearest village where there are a couple of excellent tavernas and a few more bars and shops dotted along the waterside.

Visit one of the surrounding islands – the deserted island of Atokos is opposite Kioni bay and is a wonderful place for snorkelling and cliff jumping. It has Robinson Crusoe beaches and there are no residents so enjoy the turquoise waters in the peace and quiet!

Our View

This is a fabulous house for anyone wanting a great holiday by the sea in Greece – we have visited the house three times. The location and setting of this new house are totally magical. The position above a small beach with a wonderful lunchtime taverna is beyond compare.

The villa is very private with spectacular views across the bay to the picture-postcard village of Kioni which is two minutes in the RIB. A small beach is only a couple of minutes walk down from the house but please note the track is steep and uneven and not suitable for the very young or immobile.

Spend your days by the pool, at the beach taverna sipping on an ice cold Mythos beer or out on the RIB. For those who love waterskiing this boat is a major plus – early morning skiing is a great way to start the day.

The owner is an interior designer and it really shows. She has created a wonderful sense of calm throughout the house with cool white walls in every room. This calm is punctuated with splashes of colour in the paintings and accessories. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a local lady who can come and help with suppers if you want.

The pool area is big and generous. A huge table under the shaded pergola allows for a stunning setting at night with views of twinkly lights across the bay.

The bedrooms have all been designed with fresh colours, modern furniture & lovely bathrooms (there are Korres products for you on arrival – including shampoo and conditioner!). The sitting room is light and spacious with extraordinary views across the bay.

The owners are very sporty and have generously provided waterskis and wake boards for their guests to use during the morning when the sea is at its calmest.

We really can’t fault this house, with the Greek sun blazing and the delicious Greek salad beckoning there are few better places to spend your summer holiday.
