Local Information

There are many prehistoric sites on Menorca as well as historical sites of interest where there are ancient monuments and signs of settlements.

Menorca is the most relaxed of the Balearic islands. It is a great destination for a family holiday with some of Europe’s best beaches.

It is home to 2 of the island’s institutions: Es Casino Bar Restaurant and Es Moli Foc. There are local shops including a bakery, a micro brewery (producing English style beers)

The main town of Mahon has a wonderful traditional charm about it, there is a natural harbour full of bobbing boats & a yacht club as well as a great cafe life. Here there are wonderful fruit & fish markets. The streets are Georgian lending an air of grandeur to the place, but don’t be fooled! This is as Spanish & relaxed as it comes. The locals are incredibly welcoming & there is a great choice of bars & restaurants to suit everyone.  Mahon’s port is relaxing by day and buzzy by night. The bars and restaurants along the port side come alive at night. The perfect spot for people watching, drinking Sangria, enjoying the hospitality of the restaurants and admiring the view.

All summer long there are traditional fiestas on the local Saint’s days. Enjoy parades of stallions with horsemen dressed up in traditional Menorcan outfits.

Menorca is famous for its great sailing, windsurfing & paddle boarding. The best watersports are in Fornells in the North East of the island, here there is an almost landlocked lagoon which offers safe watersports with great windsurfing and sailing schools and excellent waterskiing.

There are kayaks and paddle boards in the house which can be enjoyed at the local beaches.

Located in huge caves (some 25 m above the sea) at the entrance to Cala en Porter bay is Cova d’en Zoroi which is the most dramatic night spot on the island. A fabulous cafe-bar with wooden tables & seagrass umbrellas from which to enjoy the sea views. Go after 11pm and enjoy the tunes at the funky nightclub playing music til dawn. The club is hewn out of the rock so dance with the beautiful people in the most dramatic of settings on the island.

Our View

Mahon is one of our very favourite cities in the world. But you need a great base – and we think we have stumbled across the best! This hotel is utterly charming, situated in one of Mahon’s quiet one-way streets just near the main shopping area, it offers beautifully light rooms, stunning furnishings and excellent service.

It has brightly painted shutters which set the tone of the place. Welcoming, beautifully designed and comfortable.

There is a rooftop terrace and a stunning courtyard restaurant serving Italian cuisine (open for lunch and dinner). Breakfast can be enjoyed in this restful space which has trees growing up through the tables in the courtyard.

Bedrooms are comfortable and welcoming. Large, fluffy bathrobes and sumptuous furnishings in every room mean you won’t be disappointed. The attention to detail is what impressed us the most – there are hand painted tiles on the floors, designer lighting and well sourced furniture. The owners have gone all out to get this right.

Base yourself in the city or explore the local area – the beaches abound. The city has charm oozing out of every corner with delicious food markets and more sophisticated shopping, take a bargain home with you.

Ideal for a short break or a longer stay this hotel is boutique at its best!

There is a free car park nearby for hotel guests which is great if you want to nip off to beaches or vineyards.
