The North East of Corfu has to be seen to be believed. It is an unexpected mix of clear-water cloves, drifts of spring flowers and scents of herbs.
As well as the many beaches, tavernas, bars and restaurants you can find wild orchids, tortoises, Venetian belfries, winding village streets and local farmers leading donkeys laden with kindling.
There is so much to do and see from admiring imposing country manor houses in lush olive groves to visiting tiny hilltop chapels with a solitary candle burning inside.
The island of Corfu has to be seen from the sea to be fully appreciated. Take a boat out to find the more secluded coves on the north east coast that you can only get to by boat. Enjoy the beautiful beaches or snorkelling in one of the many bays before a sun downer at one of the lovely tavernas nearby. Boat home again and dine on your villa terrace in the silky night air.
From Avlaki beach (5 min drive) you can enjoy dinghy sailing, snorkelling and wind surfing.
Nearby Kalami (10 min drive) there is water skiing and other water sports.
Kassiopi (15 min drive) is a lovely local town with all sorts of different shops, from the regular fruit and veg to great gift shops. It is a draw for the teenagers who love its safe night life.
Corfu town (50 min drive) offers a more cosmopolitan experience with music and a theatre, enjoy the unexpected culture Corfu has to offer.
A beautiful house on one of the most sought-after estates in North Eastern Corfu. Lear House is close enough to the sea to wander down for a swim before breakfast. Inside the house it is slick and comfortable. Homely and luxurious all at once. Wooden floors throughout help keep the place cool in summer. Beautiful deep blues and rich creams create the perfectly sophisticated seaside house. Bedrooms are sumptuously furnished with deep pillows and stunning antiques.
The bathrooms are clean-lined and super swanky. And the kitchen has everything a foodie could need to produce a fabulous fresh feast. All in all a great pad to base yourselves in if you want to be near the beach.
The house has a good pool with lots of different places to sit in the shade if the midday sun gets too much. Enjoy lolling with a good book before wandering down to San Stefano for a delicious lunch in one of the many tavernas, or enjoy all the area has to offer at night (there’s a fab cocktail bar in San Stefano) before returning for a midnight swim.
Walking to the sea takes only 5 minutes down the steep slope in front of the house, what a wonderful option if you’ve had enough of the pool.
This house has a lovely garden and views down to the sea, a fantastic position in just the right part of the island.
