Annecy has beautiful streets lined with colourful houses and flower filled balconies. There are plenty of local amenities: a bakery, supermarkets, shops, cafes and restaurants – food markets are every week and once a month there is a fantastic antiques market.
Visit the historic Chateau d’Annecy, a wonderfully restored castle bought by locals and turned into a fascinating museum. Also in Annecy, the Palais d’Lile – an amazing house shaped like a ship in the centre of town.
There are so many different water sports to try on the lake- rafting, wake boarding, diving, paddle boarding, canoeing, genuinely something for everyone. For those who like to take life a little slower, pedalos can be rented by the hour.
A cycle track winds it’s way around the lake and many companies offer bikes to hire from electric to tandem or pop little children in the cargo bikes – genius!

A sympathetically renovated villa retaining its Art Deco period features with truly breathtaking views of Lake Annecy and the mountains beyond.
This house is such a rare find, it has an unbeatable situation only metres from the sparkling water of the lake. We can’t imagine anything nicer than a quick morning swim before sitting down to breakfast in the garden and sampling the best fresh pastries from the local boulangerie.
Inside, the house has been painstakingly updated by its owners and restored to former glory. The interiors are luxuriously rich with warm colours and quality linens, generous rainfall showers and quirky wallpapers. Each bedroom has its own bath or shower room and most of the bedrooms can be configured as doubles or twins meaning it’s perfect for a couple of families looking for somewhere to stay together. Three of the first floor bedrooms have stunning views over the lake.
Teenagers and children will love the plethora of water sports and local activities.
