Annecy has beautiful streets lined with colourful houses and flower filled balconies. There are plenty of local amenities: a bakery, supermarkets, shops, cafes and restaurants – food markets are every week and once a month there is a fantastic antiques market.
Visit the historic Chateau d’Annecy, a wonderfully restored castle bought by locals and turned into a fascinating museum. Also in Annecy, the Palais d’Lile – an amazing house shaped like a ship in the centre of town.
There are so many different water sports to try on the lake- rafting, wake boarding, diving, paddle boarding, canoeing, genuinely something for everyone. For those who like to take life a little slower, pedalos can be rented by the hour.
A cycle track winds it’s way around the lake and many companies offer bikes to hire from electric to tandem or pop little children in the cargo bikes – genius!
Sunset at Maison du Lac is spell binding. Dusk transforms the crystal-clear lake into an inky pink dream-like scene. The chef is cooking up something wholly delicious in the outdoor kitchen and rowing boats glide silently over the water.
