Local Information

The house is in the very heart of Provence, near beautiful hilltop villages, fine food, vibrant outdoor antique and food markets. You will be spoilt for choice of destinations and venues, especially with Saint Rémy de Provence right on your doorstep, one of the areas’ most outstandingly beautiful towns with wonderful shops, galleries and restaurants. Les Baux de Provence (a wonderful place to watch the sun go down over the hills), Eygalières and Maussane les Alpilles are beautiful villages with plenty of nice restaurants and cafés. Other historic towns of Avignon, Arles, Nimes and Aix en Provence are all within a short drive.

Less well known and only 15 minutes drive from the villa, situated between Arles and Avignon, visit the Chateaux Fort of les Beaux-de-Provence and dine at the world renowned and extraordinarily romantic Ousteau de Baumaniere.

The Luberon is a “Parc Naturel” since 1977. Explore and shop in the idyllic villages and hilltop towns such as Bonnieux, Rousillon, Lourmarin and Gordes.

The Camargue is a triangular area lying on the coast between the Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence, a 40 minute drive away. An ‘island’ of 85,000 hectares boasting its herds of wild white horses and rare bird population, flora and fauna, spread out amongst the wetlands and salt marshes of this huge Natural Park.

There are morning markets everyday; on Sunday at L’Isle sur la Sorgue, Monday at Fontveille, Tuesday at Paradou, Wednesday at St-Rémy and Mouriès, Thursday at Maussane les Alpilles and Friday at Fontvieille. There is also a professional food market at St Etienne everyday in the summer.

For those wanting to be more active, there is amazing hiking directly from the house into the Alpilles and numerous cycling roads leading to the hills or to the local village.

Our View

Located in the foothills of the Alpilles, within twelve acres of land and forest, you will find this stunning eighteenth century Provençal Mas. Recently fully renovated to a very high standard, retaining beautiful traditional features alongside an impressive collection of contemporary art.

There are six spacious bedrooms in the main house, with luxurious linens and comfortable beds, all with en suite bathrooms. Living and dining areas are lovely big and spaces, all tastefully decorated to a very high standard. The large open-plan kitchen has everything a professional chef would demand!

The walled gardens are mature and beautifully landscaped, with private tennis court, a boules court and swimming pool. There are numerous shaded terraces or seating areas from which to enjoy the shade. There is also a games room with table tennis, or space for some quiet time away from the main group.

The nearby cottage accommodates the house guardiens, but one additional bedroom can also be used for a bigger group.

There are so many terraces to escape for privacy and there is so much to do and see you will never be bored. At the same time, you can choose to do absolutely nothing but sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding gardens.
