Meltemi is situated in the exclusive North East corner of Zakynthos, an area of rolling hills, sublime views and a clutch of secluded luxury villas.
True to its barefoot chic soul, the villa Meltemi sits in its own 6 acre hillside grounds of olive trees and orchards, and offers all the charm of peaceful escape. It is blissfully quiet with the silence broken occasionally by the sound of goat bells as the local flock work their way up the through the terraced pastures. But it is within easy reach of small local shops, unspoiled hill villages, traditional family run tavernas and swimming coves.
There are wonderful walks from the house around the valley below to a tiny C14 church.
The little port of Agios Nikolaos is 10 minutes drive, where there are good tavernas, swimming, two small supermarkets and the ferry to Kefalonia.
Alykes is about 15 minute drive with large supermarkets, a long sandy beach and watersports available.
About 30 minutes drive, between Alykes and Zakynthos town is a water theme park.
Zakynthos town is 33 kms.
Fly to Zakynthos direct by British Airways from Heathrow or charter flights from most UK airports.
The villa is 40 minutes drive from the airport. Hire car is essential.
Rent a boat and visit the blue caves with their astonishing turquoise water, or take a cruise to Shipwreck Bay (voted one of the top beaches in the world by Conde Nast Traveller), or simply enjoy the crystal clear waters from one of the many swimming coves close to the villa.
You can take the ferry from Agios Nikolaus to Kefalonia (1hr 15mins) and visit an excellent winery and ruined venetian forts, or make a day trip to the Peloponnese and visit the sensational ruins and museum at Olympia, where you can still run in the stadium from stone starting blocks used some 2500 years ago.
Zakynthos was described as the ‘flower of the Levant’ by the Venetians, and produces excellent local olive oil, fruit, vegetables and meat.
This charming house is what we would describe as ‘barefoot chic’ – relaxed, stylish, eclectic and very laid back.
A home away from home, the art dealer owner has created a really special retreat with wonderful details such as the beautifully landscaped gardens, loads of private shaded areas for reading a book from the interesting library, and a stunning assortment of artworks.
Above all, the views are to die for and everywhere is designed to maximize the amazing position with 180’ degree panorama across the Ionian sea to the Peloponnese and Kefalonia. (Our favourite view is from the dark blue infinity swimming pool).
Inside the house, there are lovely local terracotta tiles throughout, white painted walls, two equally luxurious ‘master bedrooms’ (so no more tossing a coin for who gets the best bedroom) a pretty central courtyard and all specially designed to be easy, no stress holidaying for all generations from baby to grannie.
