Local Information

Suffolk is a quiet county in East Anglia bordering Norfolk to the north, Cambridgeshire to the west and Essex to the south, with an unspoilt landscape, wildlife-rich estuaries, ancient heaths, windswept shingle beaches and historic towns and villages.

A source of inspiration to countless artists, writers and musicians, the coastal Area of Natural Beauty is a landscape rich in history but largely spared from modern development, with vast blue skies, epic sunsets and pretty pink cottages. If you love nothing more than a long walk beside the sea, cycling along quiet lanes, sailing iconic estuaries, or spending hours quietly watching some of the UK’s rarest wildlife, this area of Suffolk has it all. Suffolk is also blessed with an abundance of gastro pubs, restaurants, farm shops and artisan producers.

Nearby seaside towns like Aldeburgh and Southwold see queues down the street for fish and chips, freshly shucked oysters, and a cold pint of locally brewed Adnams. Southwold is a quintessential, picturesque seaside town with sandy beach, pier, beach hut-lined promenade, pubs and restaurants. Home to Adnams Brewery, a focal point of the town with its brewing rooms set just behind the high street next to the town’s lighthouse, offering brewery tours throughout the year.

The estate itself is set amid hundreds of acres of rolling parkland, woodland and overlooks a large ornamental lake and its own sweeping serpentine drive. The grounds are managed for their wildlife, with a wide variety of animals, insects and plants, acres of wildflower meadows and a carpet of gold, red, yellow and blue on display through spring, summer and autumn. Birdwatching is also plentiful with 125 species of birds and 2,000 nesting boxes for birds and owls.

There is a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities possible on the estate, these include; Pashley bikes, rowing boats, spa treatments, scavenger hunts, clay-pigeon shoots, guided walks and wildlife experiences, such as the ‘morning chorus’ birdsong tour and ‘moth breakfast’.

For a family treetop adventure climbing rope ladders, swinging through the trees and hurtling down zip wires, Go Ape is 1 hour 20 minutes drive away in Thetford Forest. Alternatively, head to the coast and take to the waves in a rib from Southwold with Coastal Challenger.

At nearby RSPB Minsmere, There’s plenty to do here for both the novice and the experienced bird watcher. Use the bird watching hides to shelter you in all weathers or take the nature trail walk to explore the beautiful woods and wetlands scenery. At Jimmy’s Farm near Ipswich, experience a working farm with lots to do for the children, great food and shopping – take the farm trail to see their famous rare breed pigs, sheep, cows, geese, goats and donkeys. Keen gardeners will find peace and tranquillity in the Grade I listed gardens at Helmingham Hall, with it’s array of beautiful flowers, rose garden, exquisite manicured hedges and borders.

Our View

Set on a hill and accessed via a private drive and footbridge, this picturesque pink Tudor farmhouse has been thoughtfully and luxuriously renovated with exposed beams and solid oak flooring, with underfloor heating across all 3 floors.

The farmhouse has six bedrooms, the master has its own freestanding zinc roll-top bath in the room and there is a separate bedroom in the boat house with roll-top bath and hot tub perched over the moat.

There is a large open plan kitchen & dining room and separate comfortable sitting room. Outdoor dining here is spectacular, the hilltop location offers far reaching views across parkland and fields. A rural holiday in the UK really doesn’t come much more stylish than this.

The house is 15 minutes drive from the main estate, where it’s possible to row on the lake and there is a tennis court and outdoor swimming pool available to guests.
