Local Information

The capital of Ithaca is Vathy, just 8 minutes drive away, where there is a good selection of bars and places to eat, enjoy the wide choice of shops too. Vathy has one big supermarket.

Ithaca is one of the smallest islands in the Ionian and not all the bays are accessible by car or on foot. It is so much fun to rent a small boat in Vathy and visit some of the more remote beaches, drop anchor in one of them and snorkel for an hour before finding a seaside taverna for lunch. What could be more heavenly? It is also possible to hire a skipper to go slightly further afield for a day trip.

Kaminia beach is closest to the house, long and sandy, it slopes gently into the sea so is ideal for children. Head to the northern end, where there are a couple of small beach tavernas.

Ithaca is steeped in history – come home with some knowledge of Odysseus as there are lots of museums devoted to the man. There are some ancient churches and good museums near the house too. There is some great walking in the hills and cycling too, if you are feeling energetic.

Our View

Ithaca is one of our favourite locations, but finding good houses here is not an easy task. So we were thrilled to find this little gem in the south of the island, just a short drive to Vathy and nearby beaches. With wonderful views down to the sea and a tranquil location, the villa is nestled in the hills and olive groves as far as the eye can see.

New for 2020, this villa is unique with an individual style, privacy and space. Interiors are light and fresh with hints of calming blue throughout. Accommodation comprises two bedrooms upstairs with a shared shower room, and a third bedroom downstairs. Upstairs, there is a large terrace off one of the bedrooms with comfortable seating that makes it a wonderful spot to enjoy an evening drink and soak up the view. The living area is fully open plan with a well equipped kitchen, large dining table, lounge area and French doors leading to a good size terrace surrounded by newly planted gardens full of lavender and rosemary. Fresh for this summer, there will be a built in BBQ area.

If you want to experience real Greece, Ithaca is the place to be! The villa is perfect for a family escape to this beautiful, unspoiled island.
