Local Information

The house is in the very heart of Provence, near beautiful hilltop villages, fine food, vibrant outdoor antique and food markets and the art of Cezanne, Van Gogh, Chagall and Giono. You are spoilt for choice for destinations and venues, especially with Aix-en-Provence right on your doorstep.

The Luberon is a short drive away, a “Parc Naturel” since 1977. Explore and shop in the idyllic villages and hilltop towns such as Bonnieux, Rousillon, Lourmarin and Gordes.
Less well known and only 30 minutes drive from the villa, situated between Arles and Avignon, visit the Chateaux Fort of les Beaux-de-Provence and dine at the world renowned and extraordinarily romantic Ousteau de Baumaniere.
Visit St. Remy de Provence, one of the areas’ most outstandingly beautiful towns with wonderful shops and galleries.

The Camargue is a triangular area lying on the coast between the Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence. An ’island’ of 85,000 hectares boasting its herds of wild white horses and rare bird population, flora and fauna, spread out amongst the wetlands and salt marshes of this huge Natural Park.
Just 10 minutes by car, is the famous spa town of Aix-en-Provence where you will find a huge range of shops, daily food markets in the city’s most beautiful squares, a huge range of restaurants, bars, cinemas and antique shops will ensure that you keep going back day after day. You never tire of Aix. In June and July, the city holds two significant music festivals, including opera, jazz and popular music. This festival is internationally renowned and is incredibly important in the musical calendar. It is essential to buy tickets from the UK in advance.

Our View

We were welcomed into this glorious house with open arms by the generous owners. Their jewel of a house is just outside Aix-en-Provence which we had fallen in love with.

We were staggered by the amount of space around the house, a large and beautiful estate which is home to a small chateau. Sitting in 25 acres of rolling olive plantations and lavender, cypress trees, mature oaks and fruit orchards this haven of peace would be an amazing place to spend precious holiday time. For anyone wanting time away from the swimming pool there is so much to do and see just in the grounds.

The house is set out over three floors, it is wonderfully spacious and light-filled, there is so much to do here and so many different places to go: the chateau, the pool house, tennis court or just…the shade! With extensive views over the rich French countryside to the mountains of the Massif de l’Etoile in the far south, Notre Dame du Val is a wonderful mix of the traditional and the modern. It is right on the doorstep of Aix-en-Provence, one of the most vibrant, entertaining and exquisite towns in France. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the brand new bathrooms filled with delicious lotions and potions were such a lovely addition.

There are woods behind the house which children will love to explore. And for the adults there is a brand-new 18-hole professional golf course across the road.
