Favignana is one of three islands which make up the Egadi Islands in the Sicilian Archipelago
Favignana town is 5 minutes by car, and has a small port, restaurants, a market and some good bars and cafes
Cala Azzurra beach is 5 minutes by bicycle
You can also swim at Cala Rossa and Bue Marino which are a 10 minute cycle away
Fly to Trapani Birgi Airport or Palermo (Sicily) from London and some regional airports. From either airport take a taxi to Trapani port, there are hourly hydrofoils to Favignana.
It is possible to land a helicopter on the island.
Private transfers to and from the airport can be arranged
Car hire is optional, bicycles are popular alternative here as the island is mostly flat
The island of Favigana has a mountain ridge in the middle of the island, topped with a 12th Century castle, from which you can take in the most amazing views of the whole island and out across to the mainland. Italians know all about this sun-drenched spot, five miles off the western coast of Sicily, but it remains gloriously overlooked by the rest of the world.
With it’s main piazza packed with delicious restaurants, cute gelaterias and its low Mediterranean houses, the town is really pretty. Don’t miss the various fetes held in the square throughout the summer, they’re a great opportunity to hang out with the locals and hear some traditional Sicilian folk songs.
On the other side of the island there is a super cool beach bar within a stone’s throw of the water, come here in the evenings for a drink and relax on the huge bed-size sun loungers.
There are lots of different water sports on the island: speed boats, snorkeling, SCUBA can all be arranged in advance. Take a day trip to the other islands of Levanzo and Marettimo where there are mountain walks, bicycles, scooter hire is nearby as well as lots of sightseeing.
There are some wonderful swimming spots scattered all around the island, the most popular of which are within walking distance to the house, Bue Marino and Cala Rossa. Lido Burrone is great for little ones as it has a sandy beach. The colour of the water has to be seen to be believed.
Favignana is resolutely Italian, and so after a long lunch, there is barely time for a siesta and a quick swim before heading into town for an aperitivo, the passeggiata, then dinner, followed by a gelato and a stroll by the harbour’s edge. Fresh tuna, lobster, prawns and squid are on every menu, while Arabic influences are common. Pasta dishes might include almond or fresh mint; puddings use candied fruit and pistachios. Ice-cream parlours are on every corner serving flavours such as peach, fig, blood orange, almond and jasmine. Perhaps the best is La Pasticceria on via Garibaldi, where queues gather at 11pm each night to eat fine gelato served in warm, fresh-baked brioches.
From The Light House you get magnificant views of Erice, Trapani and Marsala.
A fabulous light-filled cutting edge house surrounded by the beauty and ancient traditions of this island, the perfect marriage! A symmetrical building with a shaded courtyard in the middle, we love the clean lines and shapes in this house.
The beautiful garden is full of strong smelling indigenous plants: almonds, mulberries, figs, olives, bougainvillea, aloe vera and many others. There is a fabulous, huge lawn in front of the house, ideal for children running around and great for playing games. To the other side of the house is a miniature olive grove with hammocks slung between the branches, the owners even make their own olive oil and beautiful preserves from the produce.
The garden leads down to a very modern pool with comfy cushions and sunbeds, all with a large linen sail above it for shade if that’s what you need. From the house you have the most amazing views of Sicily and at night it is particularly spectacular. The inside of the house is just as stylish as you would expect from a house of this quality, with stone floors, lots of glass and a state of the art air-conditioning system to ensure it stays lovely and cool during the day, this is the perfect modern home to enjoy in the sun.
We are thrilled to be able to offer this wonderful house to our clients.
