Local Information

Corfu has to be seen to be believed – clear-water coves, drifts of spring flowers and scents of herbs, wild orchids, tortoises, Venetian belfries, winding village streets, donkeys laden with kindling, imposing country manor houses in lush olive groves, tiny chapels with a solitary candle burning inside – all this is here.  Alongside are cosmopolitan classical concerts, opera and theatre, chic and sophisticated shops, sports facilities of every kind, superb swimming, and endless wining and dining destinations from the simplest to fairly expensive.

Nearby San Stefanos is a simple and pretty harbour with seafront tavernas and a delightful beach. The tavernas are lively, day and night and there is also a cocktail bar if the mood takes you.
For the teenagers the night life in Kassiopi is a short drive up the coast. If looking for somewhere a bit more lively, the town of Kassiopi is 5 kilometres away housing a beautifully picturesque harbour, wide choice of tavernas, shops, restaurants, bars and a pharmacy.

This is a fine place to spend a family holiday or with a close group of friends, potter into town for delicious local delicacies, take a small boat from to a tiny taverna for a long, lazy lunch of fresh fish and come home to a delicious dinner under the stars.
One of the greatest pleasures of this gorgeous, wooded stretch of coast is that the sea-fronted properties are so accessible by boat. You can spend your mornings stopping off to swim at one or other pebbly cove, admiring the views of mainland Albania before seeking out a new taverna for lunch. Most of the tavernas have their own wooden jetties and their owners will wave you in, catch your rope and tie you off before handing you their menu.

Our View

Down an unmade road above the delightful fishing village of San Stefano we found this beautiful house.

It is a large property offering stunning, huge outside space, two kitchens, a pool with an extraordinary view (extraordinary!) and a series of beautiful bright bedrooms and bathrooms all boasting hand-painted furniture and brilliant vibrant furnishings.
It was so lovely to find a house which is so homely and which made us smile.

We entered the house on a brilliantly sunny morning through a cool hallway and down some stone stairs into the outside sitting room where bright red chairs with mexican cushions welcomed us.  Views down to the sea and across to the Albanian coast completely took our breath away.

The pool terrace was alive with plants, comfortable white sun loungers and white towels. Agapanthus and cyclamen bobbed heads along side bougainvillea and jasmine. A heavenly combination.
There is a huge covered courtyard dining area with outdoor kitchen perfect for foodies where we could imagine our guests cooking up a storm.
The indoor kitchen is wonderfully retro with top of the range equipment and lovely tiles on the walls. Bright paintings have been hung on every wall. Large colonial ceiling fans keep the bedrooms cool (there is also air con) and there is a bright bunk room for the children. The bedrooms have terraces with tables and chairs for that little bit of extra peace.

Each bedroom has been beautifully decorated using different bright colours. Even the keys to the bedroom door have a stunning feather key ring in a bright colour. Enjoy rooms in cool pinks and greens, bright purple, red or blue. The bathroom furniture is wooden and has also been painted in a punchy hue.

You couldn’t fail to have a wonderful time at this house. It would be a joyful place to spend a week or two.
