The pretty nearby village of Mells has a rich history which can be seen in the old buildings and unspoilt surroundings. In the center of the village is The Talbot pub, an Elizabethan coaching Inn serving delicious food. Tea and cake can be found at the village cafe, and also at The Walled Garden – a charming garden combined with a small plant nursery and cafe. Dine outside on freshly cooked wood-fired pizzas.
The nearest town is Frome, where the old streets are lined with quirky independent shops and cafes. The town really comes alive once a month at the local market where stallholders pack together to sell fabulous food and homemade wares. Weekend mornings are bustling with cosmopolitan types sitting at bistro tables on the cobbled streets, chatting over their morning coffees.
Bruton is another historic town within easy reach. Home to the very cool art gallery Hauser and Wirth, an outdoor activity centre for children at Mill on the Brue and some fabulous restaurants- we love At The Chapel, Matt’s Kitchen and the Roth Bar and grill.
The Newt in Somerset is a newly opened estate with magnificent walled gardens, a glasshouse, farm shop, restaurants and cafe. A wonderful day out- not to be missed.
A marvellous Georgian rectory in the heart of Somerset surrounded by charming gardens and verdant countryside. Inside is a collectors’ treasure trove of old and new. Antique and contemporary furniture combine really well, the mood rock ’n’ roll and the art seriously cool. This house is so quirky and full of life; we loved the fabulous lime green TV room with patterned ceiling and the beautiful dining room that feels like an orangerie with huge sash windows and French doors. And we haven’t even mentioned the VERY cool snooker room…
This is a beloved home in the most romantic setting, perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle.
