4×4 car hire is essential
Paxos boasts some of the bluest waters in Europe, you would be forgiven for dreaming that you were in the Caribbean. With its endless olive groves and warm waters, Paxos is the most glorious island year round.
There is no airport on the island which has enabled Paxos to retain its simplicity and there is something very pure about the place.
Mass tourism has certainly not reached this idyllic spot, the tavernas are properly local but, due to the attraction of the island to the Italian visitor in recent years the standard of food is amazing for such a small place.
Enjoy delicious home made pasta, glorious salads and scrumptious fresh fish in great surroundings.
Take a boat to visit the white sands of Anti Paxos for the day – book lunch on the beach there and leave your boat bobbing just a few metres away in the blue bay – there is no marina in Anti Paxos, just drop your anchor and swim ashore!
For those cocktail lovers there is the trendy Ben’s beach with its decking and dancing at sunset…certainly the place to go and see the beautiful Italians. Swim around into Lakkos Bay just by Lakka for the ultimate in barefoot chic.
Those who visit Paxos go back time and time again.
The term ‘wow’ house can sometimes be overused – but this house certainly deserves it – it is right up there with the best we have seen on Paxos. This house has been built on a really large estate, with beautiful views across both east and west coasts.
Set high up on a cliff top near Vassilatika in the west of the island, the house benefits from a breeze all year round but also from the amazing light over the sea – sun sets and sun rises – what a place from which to enjoy the joy of the sea. The Italian architect-owner has developed this building in the most glorious way possible, built from local Paxos stone and with the best attention to detail.
The bedrooms lead onto the garden and are cool, they have doors which go out straight to the terrace. The enormous sitting room has cool, white furniture and beautiful floor coverings. Floors are a very groovy polished concrete, walls are white and a HUGE aeroplane propeller on the ceiling is an effective (cool!) fan. This room leads through to the brightly-coloured kitchen which has doors out onto the eating terrace which looks down over the sea. Bathrooms are yellow and ochre, with lovely fluffy white towels.
The swimming pool is big and has a beautiful wooden decking surround, a shaded place for eating and a great pool house. Enjoy hours of blissful relaxation here with views that change all day long.
Please note, the house is approached on an unmade road so a 4×4 is essential.
