Car hire is recommended on Paxos
Paxos boasts some of the bluest waters in Europe, you would be forgiven for dreaming that you were in the Caribbean. With its endless olive groves and warm waters, Paxos is the most glorious island year round.
There is no airport on the island which has enabled Paxos to retain its simplicity and there is something very pure about the place.
Mass tourism has certainly not reached this idyllic spot, the tavernas are properly local but, due to the attraction of the island to the Italian visitor in recent years the standard of food is amazing for such a small place. Enjoy delicious home made pasta, glorious salads and scrumptious fresh fish in great surroundings.
Take a boat to visit the white sands of Anti Paxos for the day – book lunch on the beach there and leave your boat bobbing just a few metres away in the blue bay – there is no marina in Anti Paxos, just drop your anchor and swim ashore!
For those cocktail lovers there is the trendy Ben’s beach with its decking and dancing at sunset… certainly the place to go and see the beautiful Italians. Swim around into Lakkos Bay just by Lakka for the ultimate in barefoot chic.
Those who visit Paxos go back time and time again.
This is such a find! Unusual and divine – a one-off, architect-designed house – set up high on a north west-facing hill in one of the most beautiful parts of Paxos, privacy and style come as standard in this magical setting. A house for grown-ups who enjoy the finer things in life.
There are 5 large and sophisticated bedrooms in the main house and one in a cottage nearby. The interiors will make you gasp – white walls, marble floors, designer furniture, beautiful fabrics, incredible lighting – we can’t find fault anywhere in this uber cool pad. The stylish French owner of this immaculate oasis has spent literally years building up her collection of unique 1950s and 60s vintage pieces. Furniture from Northern Europe (there is a strong Scandinavian influence throughout and minimalist Italian stilnovo), vintage reclaimed chairs and light fixtures and even a black and white tiled bathroom – you will want to photograph every single corner of every room and will be the envy of your Instagram followers! The detail is dreamy – you’ll find the very best bed linen, a cooling system and two huge fridges.
Set above the house is the flawless swimming pool. It has been made using green marble. Need we elaborate any more? Suffice to say that literally no expense has been spared making this one of the most luxurious pools on the island. As soon as they see it every lover of Paxos (with immaculately behaved children!) will want to be hanging out here. The garden is large and planted with olive and Cyprus trees as well as sweet smelling herbs, lavender, rosemary and others. Settle down in any one of the many peaceful seating areas to watch the sun setting directly in front of the house, glass of something cold in hand, before enjoying fresh fish (a cook is included at high season) or some delicious Greek delicacy.
While away the day in the designer garden (the designer is Anna Cassavetti) enjoying the 180 degree views to Corfu and mainland Greece at this island paradise. The only thing that will interrupt your day is the view and if that’s not a recommendation to stay here we don’t know what is!
