Corfu has to be seen to be believed – clear-water cloves, drifts of spring flowers and scents of herbs, wild orchids, tortoises, Venetian belfries, winding village streets, donkeys laden with kindling, imposing country manor houses in lush olive groves, tiny chapels with a solitary candle burning inside – all this is here. Alongside are cosmopolitan classical concerts, opera and theatre, chic and sophisticated shops, sports facilities of every kind, superb swimming, and endless wining and dining destinations from the simplest to fairly expensive.
Here’s our must do list:
Play golf at one of Europe’s finest golf courses
Horse ride from Avlaki beach
Learn the basics of dinghy sailing and water skiing
Soar above the sea on a parachute or dive below its surface on a scuba diving expedition
Dive & snorkel from Kassiopi
Tour the north east coast in a motor boat
Enjoy walking and wild flowers in early and late season
Enjoy a drink on the ’Liston’ in cosmopolitan Corfu Town and shop in its narrow streets
Visit the Byzantine castle of Angelokastro for a spot of history and drama – imaginative children love it
Visit Corfu Town’s various museums and palaces
Visit the deserted village of Old Perithia high up in the mountains
Take a tour of neighbouring Albania
There is no denying that anyone seeking an escape from a busy life will be content to relax by the pool or on the beach without ever picking up the car keys or opening a map, but it would be a pity to leave Corfu without exploring at least one of its many diversions.
This stunning property boasts one of the best locations in the North East of Corfu, high above the lovely fishing village of San Stefano. The house has been recently renovated to the very highest of standards, no stone has been left unturned.
The house is a beautifully constructed building made from local stone by Corfiot craftsmen boasting pale grey shutters which beautifully match the surrounding silvery olive trees. Large local pots filled with geranium punctuate the scene, smooth floors and expensive sun beds complete the whole.
The beautiful big bedrooms (all with sea views) look down across the olive groves below. Comfort comes as standard in every bedroom with huge beds, sumptuous white sheets and fluffy towels in the bathrooms.
The sitting room is a lovely mixture of antiques and new furniture with glorious huge lamps, fresh white and blue covers and an open fire.
The swimming pool has lots of shade (parasols), the perfect place to relax after a day on the boat.
Drift down to San Stefano in the car for a drink in the cocktail bar or dinner at one of the many wonderful tavernas right on the water front.
The house couldn’t be better placed if we had built it ourselves!
