Local Information

The north west coast of Mallorca is so very different to the rest of the island. Although the area is not without its tourists it is a more relaxed scene.

Situated in a World Heritage site, Valldemossa is a stunning little town in the hills of the Tramuntana range. Rich in cultural history, it is very unspoilt. It has a Carthusian monastery and has long been attractive to writers, artists and musicians. It was home to Chopin for much of his latter life (there is a statue of him in the square). The town has charming, windy streets, green shuttered windows and doors with some lovely shops and markets. There are some good restaurants and bars in the town.

If you want five star restaurants nip up the road to Deia which has several excellent restaurants including the renowned Olivo which is within the La Residencia Hotel. Arriving into Deia by road from the south you round the headland at Sa Pedrissa and you are met with your first stunning sight of the village that you will probably remember forever.
The locals who built the village (long before the days of town planning) got it so right. They were limited to the local materials they could find so all the houses are built in the same coloured stone as the mountain range which serves as the dramatic back drop.

The beaches in Mallorca are white sand, the east coast is heaving with beautiful coves and sumptuous white villages dotted in amongst the green groves.

There is lots of local cycling, walking and horse riding. Walk from the house to Deia in 5 hours and eat lunch in a Michelin-standard restaurant. There are also local courts for tennis players and lots of sailing and water skiing.

The capital of Mallorca is Palma (a 15 minute drive away) which is a wonderful place to visit during your stay, it has great shopping, lively bars and good restaurants as well as a Gothic cathedral. The maze of narrow streets in the Arab quarter are wonderfully atmospheric at night and the royal palace is not to be missed. It is also home to numerous Michelin starred restaurants.

The rural villages of the north west are ancient and beautiful, the local houses are all made out of the same coloured stone as the mountains so they literally disappear like a multitude of chameleons dotting the area. Deia is a beautiful place, ancient and cultural and contemporary all at once. It boasts the best restaurants on the island, indeed other tourists visit from all over the island ensuring it is always on their list of places to visit.

Our View

Villa Clara is a beautifully renovated traditional Mallorcan stone manor house in an ideal location on the North West coast of Mallorca.

Its many windows with deep green shutters allow the interiors to be incredibly well lit, and the spacious and luxuriously furnished rooms are fabulously comfortable, with stunning views and paying respect to the building’s more humble beginnings (and old olive press is still in situ in the sitting room!)
The house itself is nestled amongst olive groves, and is only 5 minute drive from Valldemossa, so you really do get the best of both worlds in terms of feeling lovely and secluded whilst also having the fabulous local amenities nearby.

There’s so much outdoor space at this villa, with shaded terrace seating, lush green lawns and gloriously shaded dining areas, not to mention the private tennis court! This house is the perfect place for large groups, with the perfect amount of space both indoors and out that you’ll never feel on top of each other, with beautiful and extensive views over the surrounding landscape.
