Local Information

The village of Elounda is in picturesque Mirabello Bay. Once a charming fishing village, it’s now a bustling hub with much to offer. Being neither too busy nor too isolated, Elounda has a glorious coastline with startlingly clear waters.

Dotted along the Golf of Mirabello, from the town of Agios Nikolaos and further East, there are several stunning beaches, many under 10km from the villa, so you really are spoilt for choice! Visit the nearby island of Spinalonga, 10-15 minutes drive from the villa to the village of Plaka, and a further 10 minutes by boat) Plaka itself is a beautiful seafront town, with much to see and great tavernas.

You’ve also got to see the neighbouring Kolokythia island – accessible via a bridge from the mainland. It’s a beautifully unspoiled and virgin island. Slightly further afield, Agios Nikolaos is perched on a hill overlooking Mirabello Bay, and is a larger town with a small-town feel. There’s a strong sense of character and heritage here, and plenty to keep everyone entertained. There’s some great shopping to be had, with shops selling a variety of chinaware, clothes, fabrics and local food products and delicacies. Geographically, a narrow channel separates the town’s pretty harbour from the nearby Lake – Voulimeni, and the banks of the lake are pedestrianised and bustling with cafes and restaurants. In the evenings there’s a real buzz about the place, as the harbour-side bars fill with stylish young twenty-somethings looking for the gentle nightlife Ag Nik has to offer. There are many great eateries in Agios Nikolaos; head to one of the restaurants over-looking the lake, and for a local flair try one of the fabulous waterfront tavernas.

For those of you seeking a fully authentic Mediterranean experience, the surrounding mountain villages are a real must-see. They are scattered around and many are within easy driving distance. There is spectacular food to be had here (and incredibly well-priced too!), in many instances grown in the back gardens of the eatery’s owners. There are authentic tavernas and bars, cafes and chapels to visit, and they offer such a wonderful insight into the Mediterranean of old, perfectly unspoiled and authentic.

Golfers rejoice, as there is a top 18-hole golf course an easy drive away, and several smaller courses closer to home. There are watersports at at the neighbouring 5 star hotel, as well as spas, beaches, restaurants and tavernas that you are welcome to use too. Nothing is too much trouble here, and everything from horse-riding to personal training can be arranged for you at your request. There are also some great walks in the area and just a short drive from the house.

Our View

This private villa is quite magnificent, surrounded by the mountains of Elounda while being right on the sea with the most fantastic sea views.

The main house is luxurious yet very much a family home, with six bedrooms. The living room is surrounded by sea views and has a six hundred year old fireplace, and there is a games room with antique billiards table and a library with a grand piano. Each of the six bedrooms in the main house has an en suite bathroom and private balcony or terrace. There is a further two-bedroom cottage, nestled under the tennis court, 65m away from the main house and perfect for a small family.

Villa Olous is a one of a kind family estate.
