Local Information

Brac, famed for its beautifully radiant white stone, is the longest and most elevated of all the Dalmatian islands, 48km long and 14km wide. Less frequented by tourists than nearby Hvar and Split, Brac is an example of perfectly preserved island life, with a rich and fascinating history, and dramatics landscapes – a mixture of rocky cliffs, sapphire waters and thick Aleppo pine forests.

The famous white-pebble beach, Zlatni Rat (Golden Cape) is a must – adorning so many of Croatia’s tourism campaigns, it’s easy to see why, with its unusual geography and changeable nature, from shallow and shaded to deep and sun-blistered, depending on the direction of the wind. Nearby to this beach is Bol, on the southern side of the island, and the oldest town on the coast. Explore the town’s narrow and winding cobbled streets, bustling with local life, in typical Mediterranean spirit. There is ample evidence of the deep history of Bol in the many monuments dating back to the 11th century, and is a great place to visit to learn more about Brac’s rich past.
Heading to the East coast, you’ll find the smaller town of Sumartin, founded in the 17th century by pilgrims attempting to flee from Turkish rule. The influence of this is evident in the difference in dialect in Sumartin from the island’s other towns. Here, fishing, ship-building and olive growing are the main occupations for locals, and this bustling town has a host of things to offer, from secluded bays, wonderfully fresh seafood and mouth-watering restaurants, head here to escape the masses and get a feel for the genuine, true Dalmatia.

Brac is home to the highest peak on the Adriatic islands, Vidova Gora, and you can hike (or drive!) to it’s peak to enjoy spectacular views over Zlatni Rat beach, Bol, and even over to Hvar on the horizon.
This island will definitely take you off the beaten path, but our glorious villas, situated right on the waterfront, provide the perfect point from which to explore and discover the island for yourselves.

Our View

Zara is perfectly situated right on the waterfront in Brac, a much sought-after location with its own access in to the azure waters of the Adriatic from its very own seaside sundeck. Complete with sea kayaks, snorkel gear and stand-up paddle boards, this is the perfect villa for water-sport lovers, and for those not quite so actively-inclined, enjoy spectating from above in the comfort of your infinity-edge swimming pool (with jet streams!)
Head out for a day on the water with the resident boat and skipper, stopping at secluded coves with ample swimming opportunities, secret lunch spots at seafront restaurants and many historical sites along the way.

Back at the villa, enjoy sumptuously soft bed linen and towels, Italian bathrooms, bespoke furniture and two (yes two!) fully equipped kitchens. There’s ample outdoor seating here, what with sunbathing hammocks, swing chairs, sumptuous sun-loungers.. curl up with a good book and settle in for the afternoon.
The resident cook can prepare delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners as you wish, to be enjoyed on the wonderful outdoor dining terrace. There’s a BBQ and pizza oven on the terrace, and even an organic vegetable garden, so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to your culinary decisions!
