Local Information

Fiscardo is a picturesque and beautiful Greek harbour village on the northern tip of Kefalonia, the largest of the seven Ionian islands. Of all the villages on this large and diverse island, Fiscardo is unique in that it was left virtually undamaged during the earthquake of 1953 which ruined most of the historic buildings on Kefalonia.

This vibrant, colourful port is bustling in the summer with its many quayside tavernas, fine restaurants, cafes and local bars to satisfy everyone’s palate, and shops, housed in renovated Venetian style mansions. By night, Fiscardo takes on an entirely different perspective. It is considered to be the most cosmopolitan spot in the Ionian Sea, the charming waterfront is lit up and bustling. Amble through the cobbled streets, potter around the odd souvenir shop and array of boutiques.

Traditional Kefalonian fishing boats moor alongside the more extravagant temporary visitors during the summer. If you are early enough you can buy freshly caught fish. Otherwise a stroll around the harbour will take you on a tour of some of the most luxurious yachts, attracted to Kefalonia by the tranquility of Fiscardo.

Our View

Just a few minutes walk from the bustling port of Fiscardo, we were delighted to find this small but perfectly proportioned house which is just perfect for a family escape.

The accommodation consists of two large bedrooms on the lower level, both with beautifully appointed marble-clad en-suite bathrooms. On the upper level, there is a good sized sitting room, leading out onto a spacious balcony with seating and a covered area for dining.

The landscaped gardens were more beautiful than we expected, lush and well established with whirling butterfly and old olive trees – the photos don’t do it justice. Windmill House is set higher on the hill than it’s neighbours and the grounds are set within a stone wall and not overlooked, even though there are a few houses nearby.

You can rent electric bikes, so car hire is not essential, and it’s an easy walk down to Fiscardo village where you will be spoiled for choice with lots of lovely bars and tavernas – Fiscardo is definitely the place to be on Kefalonia!
