Local Information

Having been shut off from foreign visitors for the majority of the twentieth century, Vis has retained a wonderfully authentic Dalmatian island feel. You’d be forgiven for thinking you were in Greece, so much so that the island was chosen to be home to Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again, and for good reason – quiet island life, friendly locals, deliciously fresh food and buzzy little bars. Vis is as much of a must see as the film.
Crystal clear, glistening waters lap gently against the shore, and there are ample spots for swimming directly off the water-side paths straight in to the warm seas. The two main areas of Vis on its North East coast are Vis Town and Kut. Vis Town is the busier of the two, with many bars and restaurants, the main marina, a sweet chapel, the main ferry port and plenty to see and do both day and night.

Kut is a short walk further East, following the ambling coastal path, and is also home to some wonderful eateries that are within easy strolling distance of some of our villas. Keep following this path and you’ll reach Grandovac beach – a glorious pebble beach with its own outdoor bar and dancefloor during the summer months, great for teenagers who want to escape in the evenings whilst the adults needn’t fear they’ve gone to far afield!
On the West coast is Komiza, roughly 12km from Vis Town. Komiza is a ‘friendly’ rival to Vis Town, known for its slightly bohemian feel and proud fishing heritage. There are delightful little beaches scattered around, and from the harbour you can catch a boat to the neighbouring island of Bisevo to visit the beautiful Blue Caves.

You simply must explore the area by boat once here – it would be crazy not to! We took a boat over to the nearby island of Budikovac, where the island’s single inhabitant (rumour has it he was banished from Vis many years before, though he seemed friendly enough to us!) prepares the most incredible fresh dishes at his menu-less restaurant – your skipper will drop anchor just offshore, and a charming rowing boat will come across to meet you and take you safely ashore. This Crusoe-esque set up is quite simply wonderful and should definitely feature on your holiday itinerary; the fish is so incredibly fresh and the flavours divine.. the whole experience alone is not to be missed.

Our View

In the charming area of Kut, this house provides the perfect respite from the lovely buzz of the local town. This beautifully finished villa is comprised of 3 smaller houses all in a row, separated by a dappled shade courtyard and dining area, then a swimming pool and lounge area on the upper terrace (a real rarity on Vis, as the most villas are literally on the water’s edge!). You enter in to the courtyard terrace from the charming off-road path, and would never know from the outside what lies in wait for you within!

The local mini-market, bakery green grocer and Ice cream shop are just 150m away. On the road towards Luka you will find the open-air cinema that shows nearly every other day a new movie (most are English spoken).

Inside the first house, there’s a spacious, open-plan kitchen and living area that leads out to the outdoor dining area, ideally situated under the shade of a vine-covered pergola. If you fancy an alfresco supper in the full sense of the word, then make the most of the traditional ‘Peka’ grill oven to rustle up a Dalmatian feast! There are two delightful bicycles in the pool house- so feel like a real local as you nip to the local market to pick up wonderfully fresh produce.

The layout of this villa is just perfect for large gatherings- each family or group feels as though they’ve their own villa all to themselves, and with the many little terraces and seating areas over-looking the sea below, there are so many uber-comfortable spots to sit down with a good book or an evening drink.

The many, spacious bedrooms are beautifully finished, with eclectic vintage furniture, and each with its own individual colour scheme. Impeccably finished to such a high standard, this town house is just divine..
